Rule 36.05 Limitation on Memoranda

When you file a motion in court, there are limits on how much paperwork you can submit to argue your side. You get three chances to file written arguments: one memo to support your motion, one memo for the other side to oppose it, and one reply memo if you want to respond back.

There are also page limits. The memo supporting the motion and the memo opposing it can each be up to 20 pages long. The reply memo, which comes after that, can only be up to 10 pages.

If you need more space than these limits allow, you have to ask the judge for permission first. You can't just submit longer documents without getting approval from the court ahead of time.
