Rule 4.05 Legal Assistance by Law Students

If you have a law student helping with your case, that student can provide legal help under a special set of rules. These are found in Rule 10.0 and the rules that follow it in the Rules for Admission to the Practice of Law. Those rules explain what a law student is allowed to do in court and what supervision they need from a licensed attorney.

Before the law student can appear in court on your case for the first time, they must show the judge a copy of their Rule 10.0 certificate. This certificate proves they are approved to provide legal assistance under the program. Without this proof, the student cannot take part in the court proceeding.
