Rule 4.07 Attire for Court Appearances

Lawyers need to dress professionally whenever they appear in court. Their clothing should show respect for the court and reflect the seriousness of their job.

Lawyers also have a duty to talk to their clients and witnesses ahead of time about how to dress. If a client or witness plans to show up in clothing that would be seen as inappropriate for court, it's the lawyer's job to say something before that happens.

This rule exists to keep courtrooms professional and orderly. Judges expect a certain level of respect to be shown through appearance, and lawyers are responsible for making sure everyone connected to their case understands that expectation.
