Rule 4.2 Application

These rules cover all criminal cases in California's superior courts. If you are involved in a criminal case, these are the rules that apply to you and everyone else in the courtroom.

There are some exceptions. A specific law or another court rule might change or override one of these rules in certain situations. When that happens, the other law or rule takes over.
