About This Court

The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas is a unit of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas and operates within the Fifth Circuit. The court has jurisdiction over bankruptcy cases filed by individuals, businesses, and other entities within the Northern District of Texas, which encompasses a large geographic area including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Amarillo, Abilene, San Angelo, Lubbock, and Wichita Falls.

The Northern District of Texas Bankruptcy Court is one of the busier bankruptcy courts in the country, reflecting the size and economic activity of the district. The Dallas Division in particular handles a significant volume of large chapter 11 corporate reorganizations, making the court a recognized forum for complex business restructuring cases.

Bar Admission

Attorneys must be admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas in order to appear in the Northern District of Texas Bankruptcy Court. Admission requires membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas or admission pro hac vice in specific cases.
