Rule 86 Effective Date of Amendments

When the Chancellor (the head judge of this court) makes changes to the court's rules, those changes start on a date the Chancellor chooses. Any new case filed after that date must follow the updated rules right away.

Cases that are already in progress when a rule changes will also follow the new rules in most situations. However, there are two exceptions. The Chancellor can decide that an ongoing case should keep following the old rules, or the court can make that call if switching to the new rules mid-case would be unfair or cause serious problems.
