Rule 4-225 Jurisdiction

This rule explains which court has power over lawyer discipline cases in Georgia. Only the Supreme Court of Georgia can review or control what happens in these disciplinary proceedings. No other court, like a superior court or trial court, has the authority to step in.

This applies to everyone involved in the process. That includes the State Disciplinary Board itself, along with anyone else connected to a disciplinary case in any way, such as witnesses, investigators, or the lawyer being investigated. If someone wants to challenge a decision or action taken during the disciplinary process, they generally have to go through the Supreme Court, not another court.

There are a few exceptions written into the rule. Rules 4-214, 4-215, and 4-216 spell out specific situations where other courts might have some role. Outside of those exceptions, the Supreme Court holds exclusive control over these matters.
