§ 24-14-23 [Duty to Answer Business Letters Timely]

If you receive a business letter that clearly needs a reply, you are expected to respond within a reasonable amount of time. This is considered basic good faith in normal business dealings.

If you ignore the letter or wait too long to respond, a court can assume you agreed with whatever was said or proposed in that letter. Your silence can be used against you as if you had said "yes" to everything in it.

This matters a lot in legal disputes involving business transactions. If someone sends you a letter describing an agreement, a complaint, or a business action and you never write back, that missing response can become evidence that you accepted those terms or actions.
