§ 24-8-805 [Double Hearsay Admissibility Rule]

Sometimes a statement contains two layers of hearsay, meaning one out-of-court statement is reported inside another out-of-court statement. For example, a document might quote what someone else said, and then a witness wants to repeat what the document said in court.

In this situation, both layers need to qualify under a hearsay exception for the whole thing to be allowed as evidence. If even one layer does not fit an exception, the statement gets kept out of court.

Think of it like a chain where every link must be strong. If both levels of the statement have a valid reason to be admitted, the judge can allow it. If one level fails, the entire statement fails.
