Rule 15.6.9 Determining accuracy of plea.

Before a judge accepts a guilty plea, they must ask questions in open court to make sure the person actually did what they are pleading guilty to. The judge cannot just take someone's word for it.

This protects people from pleading guilty to something they did not do. The back-and-forth between the judge and the person pleading guilty becomes part of the official court record.
