Rule 36.8 File Categories

The clerk of court keeps all case files organized into two main groups: civil cases and criminal cases. Civil cases involve disputes between people or businesses, like lawsuits over money or contracts. Criminal cases involve charges brought by the government against someone accused of breaking the law.

Within those two main groups, the clerk can create smaller categories to keep things organized. This gives the clerk some flexibility to sort cases in a way that works best for their office.
