Rule 44.12 Ruling on Petition

After both sides submit their written arguments, the judge has 90 days to make a decision on the case. The clock starts when the last brief is filed, whether that is the respondent's brief or the petitioner's reply brief.

The judge must put the decision in writing. This written decision must include findings of fact, which explains what the judge believes happened, and conclusions of law, which explains how the law applies to those facts.
