Rule 58 Judgments

When judges vote on a case, their votes can mean different things. A regular "concur" vote means the judge agrees with both the final decision and the reasoning written in the opinion.

A "special concurrence" or "concur in judgment only" vote means the judge agrees with the final outcome but disagrees with some or all of the reasoning used to get there. A "dissent" means the judge disagrees with both the final decision and the reasoning behind it.
