Rule 126 Responsive Pleading or Motion.

If you want to respond to a petition filed against you, you can file a written answer or motion with the court. You need to back up what you say with an affidavit or declaration, which is a signed statement confirming your facts are true.

You must give a copy of your response to the other people involved in the case at least 48 hours before the hearing takes place. This gives everyone time to read what you filed and prepare before showing up in court. Waiting until the last minute, like showing up at the hearing with your response, is not allowed under this rule.

This timing requirement matters because it keeps the process fair. Both sides get a chance to know what the other person is claiming and can prepare their arguments or evidence ahead of time, instead of being caught off guard in the courtroom.
