Rule 127 Amendment of Petition.

A judge can allow changes to a petition anytime before the case is decided. This gives everyone a chance to fix mistakes or update details in the paperwork as the case moves forward.

There are two limits on this. First, if the case involves a claim that someone broke the law, the changes cannot be used to add a more serious charge than what was originally filed. Second, if the petition is changed, the court has to give both sides enough extra time to prepare. This makes sure no one is caught off guard and that everyone gets a fair chance to respond before the hearing happens.
