These rules cover alternative dispute resolution, like mediation, in most types of court cases in Indiana. They apply to civil cases and family law cases (called domestic relations cases) filed in Circuit, Superior, City, Town, and Probate Courts. Small claims cases are also covered, but they follow their own separate set of rules for how this works.
In simple terms, this rule tells you where these ADR rules apply. If you have a civil or family law case in one of these courts, the alternative dispute resolution rules will likely apply to your case. This means you may be asked or required to try mediation or another form of dispute resolution before your case goes to trial.
