When someone is excused from jury duty, whether it's because they don't qualify, they're exempt, or they need to postpone their service, the court has to write down the reasons why. The person giving those reasons has to swear or affirm that they're telling the truth.

Courts can't just excuse someone from jury duty without a good reason. There has to be real facts backing up the decision before someone is let off the hook.

Finally, courts must hold onto these records for at least two years. This creates a paper trail so there's proof of why each person was excused, exempted, or allowed to delay their jury service.
