Rule 7 Deferral

If you're called for jury duty in Indiana but the timing is really bad for you, you can ask to have your service pushed back. The judge, or someone the judge picks to handle this, can let you put off your jury service for up to one year.

To get this delay, you need to show a good reason. This could be a hardship, meaning jury duty would create a real problem for you. It could also be extreme inconvenience, meaning the timing is unusually difficult for your situation. Or you could show necessity, meaning there's a pressing reason you can't serve right now.

This isn't an automatic right. You have to actually explain your situation and show why you need more time. If your reason is accepted, you get a new date within the next year instead of serving now.
