Rule 1.226 Officers; representatives

If someone in a court case is involved because of their job or role, like a public official or someone acting on behalf of another person or group, and they leave that job or role while the case is still going on, the court can bring in whoever replaces them. That new person then takes their place as the party in the lawsuit.

This keeps the case moving forward smoothly. Instead of the case falling apart because the original person is no longer in that position, the court simply swaps in the new person who now holds that role. This makes sense because the lawsuit was really about the position or duty itself, not just the specific individual who happened to hold it at the time.
