Rule 1.315 Actual service

When someone officially delivers legal papers to you in person (either inside or outside of Iowa), following the proper delivery rules, that's enough to count as valid notice. This means the other side doesn't also have to publish a notice in a newspaper.

In plain terms, personal delivery of court papers does the job on its own. Newspaper publication is only needed as a backup option when a person can't be found or personally handed the papers. If you were properly served in person or through an authorized method, that satisfies the legal notice requirement completely.
