Rule 1.314 Proof of publication

When someone is sued and gets notified through a newspaper notice instead of being served in person, the court needs proof that this notice actually ran. Before a judge can enter a default judgment against that person, someone from the newspaper (either the publisher or an employee) must sign a sworn statement confirming the notice was published.

This protects the person being sued. It makes sure the court has solid evidence that the newspaper notice really happened before deciding the case against someone who didn't show up or respond. Without this sworn proof on file, the court cannot move forward with a default judgment based on published notice.
