Rule 16.607 Orders and other court-generated documents

When a judge or court staff creates documents like orders, they have to follow the same privacy rules that apply to other court filings. This means sensitive personal information, like social security numbers or financial account numbers, must be blacked out or shortened in these documents too.

To make this easier, courts use the redacted (blacked-out) version of protected information that parties already provided on their protected information form. This way, the court doesn't have to figure out what to hide each time. They just use the safe version that was already prepared.

If a court order contains protected information and needs to be enforced or acted on by someone outside the court system, like a sheriff or employer, special rules apply. These rules make sure the right people can still access the full information they need to do their jobs, even though the public version stays redacted.
