Rule 8.10 Hearings regarding waiver

If someone asks the juvenile court to send a case to adult court (this is called a "waiver" motion), the court has to hold a hearing on that request within 30 days after the motion is filed. This keeps things moving so the case doesn't sit around for a long time before a decision gets made.

The only exception is if there's a good reason to wait longer. If both sides agree there's a valid reason for delay, or if something else justifies pushing back the hearing date, the court can schedule it later than 30 days. But without that kind of reason, the 30-day deadline applies.

For someone involved in a juvenile case, this means you can expect a fairly quick decision on whether your case stays in juvenile court or moves to adult court. It also gives you and your attorney a clear timeline to prepare for the hearing.
