Rule 8.37 Minor guardianship required filings

If you are a guardian in a minor guardianship case, you must file certain paperwork with the court no matter what. This includes an initial care plan, yearly reports, and a final report when the guardianship ends. The court cannot let you skip these filings, even if everyone involved agrees to waive them.

You can ask the court for more time to turn in these reports, but the court will only grant extra time if you have a good reason. Simply forgetting or being busy usually will not count as a good enough excuse.

If you miss a filing deadline, the court will first give you notice and a chance to fix the problem before taking action. But if you still do not submit the required paperwork, the court can punish you for it. This punishment could include removing you as guardian entirely. The bottom line is that keeping up with these reports is a serious responsibility, not just a suggestion.
