§ 22-2507 Command of search warrant.

This rule explains what a search warrant must tell the police officer to do. The warrant has to clearly spell out exactly who or what can be searched. This might be a specific person, a specific location like a house or apartment, or a vehicle.

The warrant also has to clearly list what items the officer is allowed to seize, or take, during the search. Police cannot search wherever they want or take whatever they find. They can only search the exact person, place, or vehicle named in the warrant, and they can only take the specific items listed in it.

This rule protects people from overly broad searches. It makes sure a judge has approved specific limits before police show up, so officers cannot use one warrant as an excuse to search everything or take anything they want.
