II, Sec. 4 Notification of need for jurors

Before each jury period starts, judges have to tell the chief circuit judge how many jurors they will need for their cases. This has to happen early enough to meet a 45-day deadline set by another court rule, so the court has time to actually gather enough qualified jurors.

If a judge knows a case is going to need more jurors than normal, maybe because the case is getting a lot of media attention or is unusually complicated, that judge has to give the chief circuit judge a heads-up. This lets the court prepare a bigger jury pool ahead of time instead of scrambling to find more people at the last minute.

Basically, this rule is about planning ahead so the court has enough jurors ready when trials happen, and so unusual cases get the extra jurors they need.
