6.060 Records of the commission

This rule explains what paperwork a judicial nominating commission has to keep, and for how long. The official records include the dated notice asking for nominations, the meeting minutes, and the letter the Chief Justice sends to the governor with the commission's recommendations.

These official records must be kept for eight years after the commission meets, then they get destroyed. Any other paperwork created during the process, like notes or drafts that aren't part of the official record, only needs to be kept for one year before it's thrown out.

For most people, this rule is mainly about record-keeping behind the scenes. It shows that the commission's key documents, like who was nominated and what letter went to the governor, stay on file for several years in case anyone needs to check them later.
