XIX App. B R. 7 Continuances and Cancellations of Hearings

Once a lawyer discipline hearing is scheduled, it can't just be pushed back whenever someone wants. Only the chair of the hearing committee assigned to that case has the power to grant a continuance (a delay of the hearing date).

Canceling the hearing entirely is even harder. This can only happen if a panel from the disciplinary board decides the hearing isn't needed to settle the issues in the case. Before making that call, the panel has to give everyone involved a chance to speak up and share their views.

In short, this rule keeps hearings on track and stops delays or cancellations from happening too easily. It makes sure any changes to the schedule go through the proper decision makers, not just one side asking for more time.
