If someone is worried that sharing certain information during a case could cause problems, like breaking a confidentiality law, they can ask the court to limit what information gets shared. To do this, they need to file a written request explaining why this is necessary. The judge will only agree to limit the sharing of information if there's a good reason for it.

In some cases, this request can be made privately, without the other side knowing about it right away, if that's what fairness requires. This might happen when telling the other side about the request would defeat its purpose.

If the judge decides to limit the sharing of information, the written request explaining why can be kept sealed, meaning it's not open for public viewing. However, it still gets kept as part of the official case file, so there's a record of what happened and why the judge made that decision.
