Art. 1260 Appellate jurisdiction

If you disagree with a judgment made under this part of the law, you have the right to appeal that decision. Your appeal goes to the court of appeal, which is the next level up from the court that made the original ruling.

The court of appeal will look at both the facts of the case and how the law was applied. This means the higher court can review everything about the case, not just legal technicalities. They can look at the evidence that was presented and decide if the lower court got the facts right, and they can also check if the law was followed correctly.
