Art. 1269.6 Effect; continuing contact agreement

If a birth parent and adoptive family agree to keep in touch after an adoption, that agreement only counts as legally enforceable if it's been filed with the court and approved the right way, following Article 1269.5. Just talking about staying in contact isn't enough. The agreement needs court approval to have any legal weight.

Even if someone breaks the promises in that agreement, it doesn't undo the adoption. So if the adoptive family stops sending photos or letters, or doesn't allow visits like they agreed to, the birth parent can't use that as a reason to cancel the adoption, take back their consent, or sue for custody of the child. The adoption stays final no matter what happens with the contact agreement afterward.

The rule also covers a technical detail: courts are supposed to include a warning about all this in the adoption judgment. But if a judge forgets to include that warning, it doesn't cause any problems for the adoption itself. The adoption remains valid either way.
