Art. 1307.12 Personal information; limit on use

This rule protects personal information that gets collected or shared during juvenile court proceedings. If someone gathers personal details about a child or family for a specific reason, they can only use that information for that same reason. They cannot use it for something else later on.

For example, if a court or agency collects personal information to help place a child in a home or to arrange services, that information cannot then be used for unrelated purposes, like background checks for a different case or for reasons that have nothing to do with why it was collected in the first place.

This protects families and children by making sure their private details do not get passed around or reused without a good reason. It keeps sensitive information limited to its original, intended purpose, which helps build trust in the system and keeps personal information from being misused.
