Art. 1574 Reporting

When police look into a report of domestic abuse, they have to write it up, even if no one gets arrested. This written report has to include what the person who made the complaint said happened, along with how the case was handled.

This rule matters because it creates an official record every time domestic abuse is reported to police. Even if the officer decides not to arrest anyone, there still needs to be paperwork showing the investigation happened. This protects the person who reported the abuse by making sure their statement is documented, and it creates a paper trail that can be used later if needed, such as in court or in future incidents involving the same people.
