Art. 1575 Immunity

Police officers get legal protection when they act in good faith under this part of the law. If an officer makes a report, makes an arrest, or gives assistance related to these situations, they cannot be sued for doing so, as long as they were being careful and acting honestly.

This means an officer will not face civil liability just because they reported something, arrested someone, or helped out in these circumstances. The protection only applies if the officer acted with due care and good intentions. It does not cover officers who act carelessly or in bad faith.

The point of this rule is to let officers do their jobs without fear of being sued every time they step in to help or make an arrest in these types of cases. It gives them confidence to act quickly and appropriately, knowing they are protected if they follow proper procedures.
