This rule no longer applies. Louisiana lawmakers canceled it once enough states signed on to a newer, updated agreement about placing children across state lines (called the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children). Once 35 states joined that newer agreement, this older rule automatically went away.

Before it was canceled, the rule said that a court handling a case involving a delinquent child could send that child to live in an institution, either in Louisiana or in another state. Even after sending the child elsewhere, the original Louisiana court kept legal authority over the case. This meant the court could still make decisions about the child's future, even though the child was no longer physically in Louisiana.

Since this rule has been replaced, courts now follow the newer interstate compact rules instead. If you're dealing with a case that involves placing a child in another state, you'll want to look at the current version of the compact rather than this older, repealed rule.
