This rule explains where a case involving a child can be filed in court. In Louisiana, cases are usually filed in a specific parish, and this rule gives several options for which parish that can be.

You can file the case where the child lives with their parent or legal guardian, where the child is currently staying, where the incident or problem being reported actually happened, or wherever the child happens to be at the time. This gives families and courts flexibility, since children and their situations do not always stay in one place.

Keep in mind that this is the general rule. If another part of the Children's Code gives a specific rule for a particular type of case, that specific rule applies instead of this general one.
