Art. 574 Indigent Parents' Representation Program; establishment

This rule creates a program to provide lawyers for parents who cannot afford one. It is run through the Louisiana Public Defender Board, the same state agency that handles public defense in other types of cases.

The program exists because parents sometimes face serious legal issues involving their children, such as cases where the state wants to remove a child from the home or end parental rights. These cases can permanently change a family's future, so parents need legal help to protect their rights. If a parent cannot pay for a lawyer, this program is meant to make sure they still get legal representation.
