Art. 762 Consolidation of hearings

When a family is being looked at for needing services, the court can combine that hearing with other related hearings happening at the same time. This means if a child in the same family also has a case about being delinquent, or a case about needing care and protection, the judge can handle all of these cases together in one hearing instead of scheduling separate ones.

This saves time for everyone involved, including the family, the court, and any lawyers or caseworkers. It also lets the judge see the full picture of what's going on with the family and the child, since these cases often connect to each other. For example, problems at home that lead to a "family in need of services" case might also relate to why a child is acting out or why a child needs care.

The judge decides whether combining these hearings makes sense for a particular case. Families should know that if their case gets combined with another one, they may need to be ready to address more than one issue during the same court date.
