Art. 786 Applicability

If you're involved in a juvenile court case in Louisiana, this rule tells you when certain court procedures apply to your case. The rules in this chapter cover almost every situation that comes up in these cases.

There's just one exception. If the court's final decision is to place a child in the custody of a child care agency, these particular rules don't apply. In every other type of case outcome, the rules in this chapter are the ones that govern how things proceed.

For families and children going through the court system, this means you can expect these procedures to guide your case unless the outcome specifically involves placing the child with a child care agency. If that happens, different rules take over instead.
