Art. 1116 Third party defendant may bring in third person

If you get pulled into a lawsuit as a "third party defendant" (meaning someone else in the case is trying to make you pay for part of what they owe), you can turn around and do the same thing to another person. This rule lets you bring in a new person if you think that person should actually be the one paying, or should share the blame with you.

To do this, you follow the same steps that were used to bring you into the case in the first place. Those steps are laid out in the earlier rules (Articles 1111 through 1115). Basically, the same process just repeats itself down the chain.

This matters because it lets everyone who might share responsibility for a claim get pulled into one lawsuit, instead of filing separate cases later. It saves time and keeps things fair, since all the people who might owe money can argue their case in front of the same judge at the same time.
