Art. 2343 Sheriff's return after sale

When a sheriff sells property under a court order (like in a foreclosure or debt collection case), the sheriff has to file a written report with the court afterward. This report is called a "return."

The report must show that the sheriff followed all the proper steps required by law. It also needs to include specific details: how the sale was carried out, a description of the property that was sold, who bought it, how much they paid, and what happened to the money from the sale.

This rule exists so there's an official record proving the sale was done correctly and so everyone involved (the court, the buyer, and anyone owed money from the sale) can see exactly what happened and where the proceeds went.
