Art. 3221 Preservation of succession property

When someone dies and their estate goes through the court process, the person in charge of handling the estate (called a succession representative) has a legal duty to take care of the property that belongs to the estate. This means they need to keep the property safe, make necessary repairs, and protect it from damage or loss.

This duty applies to all types of property in the estate, whether it's a house, land, personal belongings, or other assets. The representative can't just ignore the property or let it fall apart while the estate is being settled. They are responsible for looking after it properly until it can be distributed to the heirs or handled according to the court's instructions.

If the representative fails to do this, they could be held responsible for any damage or loss that happens because they didn't take care of things. This rule exists to protect the value of the estate for the people who are supposed to inherit it.
