Art. 3297 Publication

When someone files this kind of application with the court, the law requires public notice to be printed in a newspaper or similar publication used for official legal notices. This notice tells the public, including any heirs, that the application has been filed.

Anyone who wants to object or fight the application has only seven days to act. That clock starts counting from the day the notice is published for the last time, not the first time. So if the notice runs more than once, the deadline is based on the final printing.

If no one raises an objection within those seven days, the court can move forward with granting the application. This rule mainly exists to give people fair warning and a real chance to speak up before the court makes a decision, especially in cases where family members or other interested parties might have a stake in the outcome.
