Art. 3504 Return of sheriff; inventory

When a sheriff carries out a court order to seize property (called a writ of attachment or sequestration), they have to report back to the court on what they did. This report goes to the clerk of the court that issued the order.

The sheriff's report must explain exactly how they carried out the seizure. They also have to attach a list of everything they took, so there's a clear record of what property was seized.

This rule protects everyone involved by creating a paper trail. The person whose property was taken can see exactly what was seized and how, and the court has an official record of the sheriff's actions.
