Art. 3831 Appeal not to suspend execution of judgment; delay

If a judge orders someone released from custody, or moved into someone else's custody, that order takes effect right away, even if the decision gets appealed. In other words, filing an appeal does not put the judgment on hold. The person still gets released or placed in the new custody arrangement while the appeal is being worked out.

If someone wants to appeal this kind of decision, they have to act quickly. The appeal must be filed within 30 days, starting from the dates spelled out in Article 2087(A). Missing that deadline likely means losing the right to appeal.
