Art. 5058 References to code articles or statutory sections

When you see the Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure mention a book, title, chapter, section, or article without saying which law it comes from, it means that part belongs to this same Code. You don't need to search other laws to figure out where it comes from, unless the text clearly points somewhere else.

The rule also covers what happens when laws get changed over time. If the Code refers to a specific article or section of a law, that reference automatically includes any past or future changes to that law. This means you don't have to worry about whether you're reading an old or new version. The reference stays valid even after lawmakers update or amend the rule it points to.
