Art. 84.1 Actions involving the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System

If you want to sue the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System or its board of trustees, you have to file the lawsuit in one specific place. You can either file it in East Baton Rouge Parish or in the parish where the retirement system is officially based. You cannot pick any other location, no matter what other laws might normally allow.

On the other hand, if the Retirement System or its board is the one doing the suing, the case must go in the parish where the underlying problem actually happened. This rule overrides other general laws about where lawsuits can be filed. It applies even if another law would normally let the case be filed somewhere else.

In short, this rule limits where these types of lawsuits can be filed depending on which side the Retirement System is on. If it's being sued, the case goes near its home base. If it's suing someone else, the case goes where the dispute took place.
