Art. 226 Duty of private person after making arrest

If a regular citizen makes an arrest, they can't just hold onto the person or handle things on their own. They have to hand the person over to a police officer right away.

This also means that anything taken from the arrested person, like weapons, stolen goods, or personal belongings, must be turned over to the police officer too. The private citizen isn't allowed to keep these items or decide what happens to them.

The idea behind this rule is simple. Regular people don't have the training or authority to hold someone in custody or manage evidence. Once an arrest is made, the job needs to pass to trained law enforcement as fast as possible. This protects both the person who was arrested and the citizen who made the arrest.
