Art. 227 Rearrest after escape

If someone under lawful arrest manages to escape or gets rescued by someone else, the person who was holding them in custody can chase after them and catch them again right away. This applies no matter where in the state the person goes, and no warrant is needed to retake them.

The officer or person making the arrest can use the same methods to recapture the escaped person that they could use during a normal arrest. This means the rules about how much force is allowed and how the arrest should be carried out still apply, just like the first time the person was taken into custody.

The point of this rule is to make sure someone can't avoid custody simply by running away or being helped to escape. It lets the person in charge act fast, without having to go back to a judge for paperwork, since the original arrest was already lawful.
