Art. 573.2 Running of time limitations; exception; video voyeurism

For the crime of video voyeurism, the clock on the deadline to file charges doesn't start ticking right away like it does for most crimes. Instead, the time limit only begins once the victim actually discovers that the crime happened.

This makes sense because video voyeurism often involves someone being secretly recorded without their knowledge. A victim might not find out about it until much later, sometimes months or years after it happened. If the normal deadline applied, prosecutors could lose the ability to file charges before the victim even knew a crime occurred.

For victims, this means you don't lose your chance for justice just because you didn't discover the crime right away. The time limit protects you by starting only when you become aware of what happened, not from the moment the crime itself took place.
